Why La La Anthony Talks To Vanessa Bryant ‘Every Day’

Vanessa Bryant lost Kobe and Gianna Bryant nearly ten months ago in a tragic helicopter crash. While Bryant has rarely spoken out publicly; she clearly has a good circle around her, including her best friend La La Anthony.

In an interview with PEOPLE, Anthony reveals the two are constantly in contact, ”I talk to [Vanessa] every day. I talk to her every single day. And I just always say, ‘Continue to send her great energy and pray for her.’ That’s important and just trying to be a great friend. But when you’re friends with somebody, you don’t have to try, you just do.”

The 39-year-old continued, “Good friends are hard to find. So when you find them, you hang on to them no matter what. So it’s great that during this time we’ve been able to stay connected and I only have one child, but our kids have been able to stay connected.”

She also added, “During this time, you really realize what’s important. Then you start weeding out the things that you’ve spent so much time stressing over that you’re like, ‘This doesn’t even matter right now.’ So it’s been great to have just cool girlfriends to talk to and laugh with. Some days you might want to cry because of the state of the world. It’s been great to have people in my life that I know I can call and rely on no matter what.”

Kobe, their daughter Gianna, along with seven other people, were killed on January 26 while taking a helicopter to the Mamba Academy for basketball practice in nearby Thousand Oaks.

Vanessa Bryant has filed a  wrongful death lawsuit against the owner of the helicopter company in the crash. According to the Los Angeles Times, the complaint was filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court against Fillmore-based Island Express Holding Corp. and Island Express Helicopter.  The lawsuit alleges that pilot Ara Zobayan, who also died in the crash, failed “to use ordinary care in piloting the subject aircraft” and was negligent.

In addition, Vanessa Bryant has sued a Los Angeles County Sheriff and his department due to leaked photos of the crash.

Back in March, The Los Angeles Times reported that deputies were asked to delete any photos of the incident after the Department received a complaint that an official with the Sheriff’s Department was showing photos at a bar. Unfortunately, this Sheriff’s Department has a long history of sharing photos from investigations involving celebrities, including the 2009 attack on singer Rihanna by her then-boyfriend, performer Chris Brown.
