BE: Tell us about your journey in business.
Polote-Williamson: Growing up, my father taught me that the world was mine for the taking. I could be and do anything that I wanted. I witnessed him live out that ideal for himself and it showed me that his words were true. As a young boy, he dreamed of being his own boss, but like most of us, his career path did not intersect with his dream. But I watched him go from someone’s employee longing to satisfy greater dreams, to owning and heading a multimillion-dollar international corporation.
My road to success began with seeing and believing that all things are possible. I adopted his faith and work ethic combination and added to it my desire to be a blessing to others. This belief system has taken me from a personal shopper at Saks Fifth Avenue to multi-award-winning 15x best-selling author, award-winning filmmaker and executive producer, media personality, highly sought-after speaker, and business coach; with a litany of awards, recognitions, and media mentions.
Why is it that you want to reach back and help other women?
Again, my father always taught my siblings and me the value of dreaming. “There’s more to life than this,” he and my mother would always say. Whatever your this is, there’s more. I want people to know that. And so, because I am a woman in business and media, understand what it means to be a small business owner, knows what it’s like to have to work harder to push doors open, and am a strong advocate for women supporting women; wanting women to know there is more, and then reaching back to help them achieve their dreams just seems like a no-brainer for me.
What can people expect from you in the new year?
I’ve expanded my product line to include two inspirational and motivational self-help workbooks. I am releasing two additional books and, also, 2021 holds for me: film projects, plays, and business expansion.
Please offer a word of advice to that struggling entrepreneur.
One of the most powerful, transformative things you can do for your life is to discover or rediscover your passion. Are you doing what you love and does it serve others? If so, don’t quit. Get creative and innovative. Get a coach. Attend classes, seminars, webinars—learn, develop, grow. Get a mentor. But whatever you do, don’t quit your passion. When your passion can be used to fill a void, meet a need, or serve others; you’ve found your purpose. Your purpose can change the world. Don’t quit.
