Sha’Carri Richardson has been catching a lot of heat for her last-place finish in her most recent match at the Prefontaine Classic over the weekend.
After missing the Tokyo Olympics, she had the perfect opportunity to beat all three medalists from Jamaica but once again, Jamaica’s Elaine Thompson-Herah, the fastest woman in the world, smoked the track with a time of 10.54. Fellow Jamaicans Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce finished second and Shericka Jackson claimed third place.
According to The Jamaican-Gleaner, Richardson received a recent offer from a hotel owner in Jamaica to relax at the hot island after her recent loss to the three Jamaican Olympic medalists.
“I know of the challenges that athletes sometimes face, and it is in the spirit of goodwill for her healing and restoration that I am making this offer,” Allen told the newspaper. “We’re a forgiving people, and the right and human thing to do is to push the unfortunate comments aside and help this young lady find her feet.”
Richardson responded via her Instagram Story with what appears to be a rejection of Allen’s offer.
On Richardson’s Instagram Story, the runner showed two different photos that apparently show her relaxing and having fun on the island of Jamaica. The first clip she posted appears to feature a boat ride down what appears to be a river. In that photo, she wrote on it, “been there, done that.” In the other picture, Richardson is seen in a hotel room taking a selfie of herself wearing a baby blue cutout swimsuit. The location on the photograph was tagged at Couple Tower Isle Resort, Jamaica, with the caption “Loved ittttt.”
Richardson spoke to NBC after the last-place finish. “It was a great return back to the sport. I wanted to be able to come and perform.. having a month off…dealing with all that I was dealing with … Not upset at myself at all. This is one race. I’m not done. You know what I’m capable of.”
”Count me out if you want to. Talk all the s**t you want. Because I’m here to stay. I’m not done. I’m the sixth fastest woman in this game ever. Can’t nobody ever take that from me. Congratulations to the winners. Congratulations to the people that won, but they’re not done seeing me yet. Period.”
