Jada Pinkett Smith’s Red Table Talk has been an enormous success but she has not forgotten her acting roots. Pinkett Smith, who has not starred in a film since 2017’s Girls Trip, is returning to a major move with Netflix’s Redd Zone.
According to Variety, the 49-year-old will play Tia Magee, a single mother who helps her sons and their high school football teammates after their teammate Dominic Redd was murdered.
Redd Zone is based on a true story. In 2005, 15-year-old Dominic Redd was stabbed to death. The Los Angeles Times reports, he was killed by three teenagers, and “the suspects, who are Latino, apparently made ‘derogatory comments’ to Dominic, an African American, before the attack.”

After the killing, Magee let the football team, 17 of them, live under her roof. They all went to college, and four of them made it to the NFL, including her son Brandon Magee, who was a linebacker for the Cleveland Browns and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Redd Zone will be produced by Pinkett Smith and dedicated to Dominc Redd. Pinkett Smith is currently executive producing the upcoming biopic King Richard and in production on The Matrix 4.
