U.S. Surgeon General Jerome Adams is asking LeBron James to get the COVID-19 vaccine to motivate others to do the same.
Speaking with KTLA on Monday (December 21), Adams said he believes the NBA superstar could influence millions of fans.
“LeBron James, I know you’ve been a big supporter of masks,” Adams said during the interview with the news station. “I want to know when you’re going to take the shot. Not the basketball shot, but the COVID shot.”
He continued: “Because I did it because I know it’s safe, and we want to make sure people understand this is how we end the pandemic.”
Adams says if LeBron endorses the vaccine it could send a big message to those who are against the shot.

“That’s how we promote confidence,” Adams said. “We want people to lead by example.”
Adams revealed that he hasn’t spoken with the NBA superstar about the vaccine as of yet, but if he were able to, he’d tell him to urge people to donate plasma as well.
“Take the shot, LeBron,” Adams said. “Take the shot. And encourage people to go to TheFightIsInUs.org, LeBron, and give plasma … that’s how they can save a life this holiday season.”
The coronavirus upended the NBA season last year, forcing the league to create a bubble in Orlando for the remaining games and playoffs. LeBron’s L.A. Lakers would go on to win the NBA Finals against the Miami Heat 4-2. The NBA season kicks off tonight (December 22).
