Actress Taraji P. Henson has made it her mission to use her platform to break the stigma surrounding mental health within the Black community. This week, Facebook Watch announced they will be greenlighting a new series centered on mental health and wellness featuring the award-winning actress.
Peace of Mind with Taraji is a new series hosted by Henson with her best friend and Executive Director of Henson’s Boris Lawerence Henson Foundation, Tracie Jade Jenkins, about mental health within the U.S.
“I’ve long been a mental health advocate for the Black community and created the Boris Lawrence Henson Foundation in 2018 that has provided resources to thousands of people who are struggling,” said Henson in a press statement. “I’m looking forward to bringing this new talk series to Facebook Watch, where I can continue to create [a] conversation around an issue that is near and dear to my heart.”
The social media network announced the series is a part of their package ahead of World Mental Health Day this month in new partnerships to advance research and a new feature to help connect those dealing with health issues to contact local support.
“Making information about mental health more accessible is extremely important,” said Gabriella Stern, WHO Director of Communications in a company blog post. “At the World Health Organization, we are pleased to be collaborating with Facebook in support of that goal for this year’s World Mental Health Day.”
Each episode will feature personal stories from both celebrities and people struggling with mental health issues every week “The work Taraji has done in the mental health space is inspiring, and we’re thrilled to have her come to our platform to educate and entertain around this incredibly important topic,” said Mina Lefevre, head of Development & Programing for Facebook Watch in a press statement. “One of our strengths at Facebook Watch is building community and conversation around topics people care about, and we’re looking forward to taking this journey together.”
