Tyler Perry Donates 5,000 Thanksgiving Meals To Families

Tyler Perry and Tyler Perry Studios are kicking off Thanksgiving week by doing what he does best … giving back to the community!

On Sunday (Nov. 22), the media mogul opened his Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta for four hours to feed 5,000 families with Thanksgiving meals and gift cards from the local supermarket chain Kroger. He personally funded the full event, calling it TPS Giving. His studio employees also graciously donated their Sunday to volunteer for the event. To continue to follow the proper CDC guidelines for the COVID-19 pandemic, the event was drive-thru only.

“Tyler was heartbroken seeing people all over the country stand in line for food so he decided he wanted to give back to his community in Atlanta,” a source close to Perry told People Magazine. “Hopefully this encourages others who are able to, to give back during the holiday season in a year that has been difficult for many.”

According to People, cars lined up for more than 12 hours before the official start of the event.

This is not the first time Perry has stepped in to lend a helping hand to the city of Atlanta. In July, he gifted 1,000 Kroger gift cards with the help of the Atlanta Police Department as they went door-to-door to hand them out. A month earlier, he donated a van to an Atlanta women’s non-profit organization, Project U First, that provided hygiene products to people experiencing homelessness in the community.
