Tyrese Gibson isn’t letting 2020 spoil his holiday cheer.
While shooting his upcoming film Dangerous in Canada earlier this week, the actor realized he had three unused hotel rooms on a very cold night. He ended up offering them to a homeless family of six, who gladly accepted.
He posted a video to Instagram on Wednesday (December 9) where he discussed the importance of helping those in need and hoping his posts inspire others to do good.
“I hope that they come in here and feel blessed,” he says in the video.
“I’m just trying to encourage people,” the 41-year-old told PEOPLE of the generous move.

The post and gesture are part of the actor’s “30-day selfless challenge” to his followers.
“We have never lived in a world like the world we’re living in now, where some of the most talented, smart, brilliant, educated and capable people are all out of work — losing everything they’ve ever worked for in their lifetimes,” he says in the video.
He added that even though everyone may not have the resources to offer hotel rooms to people, anything to help another human being in need is key.
“Do something. Buy them blankets, give them food, warm water, something. Anything,” he added.
Another example of Gibson’s generosity stems from his recently-launched travel business VoltronTravel.com, which has been giving away $1,000 a day for 30 days.
“I think we could all do more,” he tells PEOPLE.
