Debbie Allen is known for being a fearless leading lady as a choreographer, dancer, executive producer, and actress. With over four decades of industry experience, Allen is committed to inspiring others through the arts. At 70 years young, she embodies what it means to live your best life. For Allen’s many accomplishments, BLACK ENTERPRISE will honor her as a 2020 Women of Power Legacy Award recipient.
As a woman of great esteem, Allen is teaming up with Easy Spirit to celebrate women over 50 and to encourage them to stay active and live freely.
The Easy Spirit “Living Your Best Life Now” campaign showcases Allen’s power, beauty, and strength.
In efforts to combat ageism, Allen and Easy Spirit have the shared goal of spotlighting the achievements and beauty of over 50 real women who are making a mark on the world despite adversity and the curveballs that life has thrown their way. The campaign includes a 9/11 widower and founder of a kindness non-profit, a cancer survivor and fashion designer, and a wellness expert and bodybuilder.
In a statement released by Easy Spirit, Allen shared her excitement about the partnership.
“I am living the Easy Spirit ethos of age is nothing but a number and that anything is possible when you’re comfortable. I am an executive, who, at 70 years old, is doing more work now than ever. And I balance it with a healthy marriage and family,” said Allen.
In partnership with the LA-wide Los Angeles International Dance Festival organized by Allen and Nigel Lythgoe set to take place in April, Easy Spirit will sponsor an outdoor dance class specifically designed for women over 50. Allen, sporting shoes from the spring collection, will lead the class.
In collaboration with Allen, Easy Spirit has developed a limited edition Romy walking shoe.
“I look for shoes that offer support—because I am on my feet almost all day, every day. And I look for shoes that are also stylish, because I have a unique style. On set at Grey’s Anatomy, the staff is always making bets on what color I’m going to wear the next day. I’m always coordinated. So I look for shoes that give me support, comfort and a little zhuzh,” said Allen.
In addition to Allen’s collection being stylish, a percentage of the proceeds will benefit dance programming for women and cancer patients at the Debbie Allen Dance Academy.
“I’m living my best life now by finding time for myself—in my midst of everything else—while being totally dedicated to my family, my DADA community and my professional work,” said Allen.
The Limited Edition Debbie Allen x Easy Spirit Romy walking shoe features a unique stone embellishment that shines, to help you live your best life now, from walking to light running to dancing.
The collection launches early June and will be available on easyspirit.com, Zappos, and other retailers.
