A 9-Year-Old Accidentally Shot An 11-Year-Old To Death, Mom Was Out Shopping

Two, unrelated children were left alone in a car, and suddenly one of them shot the other.

A 9-year-old shot and killed an 11-year-old while their adult caretaker was out shopping at a Dallas Walmart, The Dallas Morning News reported.

The 11-year-old was rushed to a nearby hospital, but unfortunately, the child died.

According to the police report, the woman, 32, left the boys and the loaded handgun unsupervised in the car.

Whether or not the woman was related to the children, police did not identify, nor did they release their names of the children.

However, a report from KDFW, a Fox-owned television station licensed to Dallas, Texas, says the 11-year-old boy who was allegedly shot by his friend’s 9-year-old brother while the friend’s mother was not present, was named Dazmon Ray Brown Jr.

Brown Jr.’s mother said the 9-year-old accidentally shot her son.

“The youngest brother I guess ended up getting it off the safety and shot my child in his head,” Keyamber Matlock said.

The DailyMail reported that no one was arrested for the incident, stating police “investigations are ongoing.”

The family is currently hurting, but attorney and former prosecutor Russel Wilson weighed in on the situation, saying that the mother who left the kids in the car could face a child endangerment charge for having the firearm accessible to children if she knew a gun was in there.

While not much is known about the case, many news sites are providing interesting tidbits of information about children who have access to guns in America.

The Children’s Defense Fund says that gun violence was the second leading cause of death for children and teens between the ages of 1 and 19 in a 2020 report on gun violence.

In 2017, 3,410 children and teens were killed with guns in America, which surpassed the previous record set since 1998.

Dating back from 1963, the number of children and teens who have been killed with guns in the United State amassed to 186,239, which is “four times the number of U.S. soldiers killed in action in the Vietnam, Persian Gulf, Afghanistan and Iraq wars combined.”

“Every day, 316 people are shot in the United States,” according to the anti-gun violence group Brady, Raw Story reported.

“Among those, 106 people are shot and killed. Every day, 22 children and teens (between the ages of 1 and 17) are shot in the United States. Among those, 5 die from gun violence,” Brady reported.

According to Raw Story, 38,826 people die from gun violence.
