Earlier this month, FUBU, the iconic clothing company co-founded by Daymond John, and Black Lives Matter launched the BLM x FUBU collection, which is currently being sold on the Black Lives Matter website.
The Black Lives Matter #WhatMatters2020 campaign teamed up with FUBU to try to encourage people to vote in the upcoming general election in November 2020. It is aimed at engaging communities about issues like police brutality, voter suppression, economic injustice, the mortality rate of black mothers, and climate change. Part of the campaign’s goal is to drive voter registration in partnership with Rock the Vote and to actively engage the black community, underrepresented communities, millennials, and Gen Z in the 2020 presidential election.
FUBU made an announcement on their FaceBook page, stating: “We teamed up with #Blacklivesmatter and created a Limited Capsule Collection that debuted at #Complexcon this past weekend. Please go to https://blacklivesmatter.shop.capthat.com/store/ and grab yours while there’s still a few more available.”
The collection incorporates both classic and fashion-forward pieces, with the original BLM three-stripe streak logos featuring the classic FUBU font style and bright colors. The line includes a BLM x FUBU hoodie for $60 and a BLM x FUBU T-shirt being sold for $40.
The Black Lives Matter Global Network is a chapter-based, member-led organization whose mission is to build local power and to intervene in violence inflicted on black communities by the state and vigilantes.
FUBU was founded in 1992 by four neighborhood friends from Queens, New York, trying to make quick cash by selling tie-top hats to their friends and family. FUBU, aka “For Us By Us,” quickly grew from a shoestring budget of $40 into a $6 billion fashion empire. In 2017, FUBU celebrated the brand’s 25th anniversary with a highly coveted capsule collection revisiting the classics with plans to introduce larger collections and more collaborations in the near future.
