Game Has the Receipts to Prove He’s Here for Flint

You know what they say: what good is having everything you want if there’s no one to share it with? Maybe Game is taking a page from that book, as the rapper is giving back in a huge way.

The Compton-bred MC recently donated $500,000 through his charity, The Robin Hood Project, to bring safe, clean water to the people of Flint, Michigan. The city of about 100,000 people, largely African-American, has been grappling with a water crisis in the wake of findings that the water used to drink and bathe in was contaminated with high levels of lead, resulting in an a spike of illnesses among the town’s children.

In a fiery Instagram post, Game shared a screenshot of a bank wire transfer of $500,000 from his charity, The Robin Hood Project. In doing so, he revealed the charity’s checking account balance of more than $13.2 million. And, no, that wasn’t on accident. As the “Hate It or Love It” rapper explained, he’s tired of celebrities who claim to “pledge” their support but refuse to dig deep.

“Most celebs on here faking using the word ‘Pledge’ in their so called donations are not fooling anyone ! The truth is the population in Flint, Michigan is about 105,000 people & it takes at least 9 bottles per person a day just to use to bathe, brush their teeth, drink & cook with,” he said, adding that his younger sister and her children live in Flint currently. He said that his $500,000 donation is being matched by Avita Water company, bringing the grand total to $1 million in bottled water.

The rapper also clapped back at “cute” donations made by high profile stars, including Madonna, who is a Michigan native, and late night host Jimmy Fallon. “To those who think it’s easy getting this water to Flint, it’s not so the people who are PLEDGING they are, show us.. We want proof !!! Stop using others tragedies for your own celebrity gain… You’re not fooling ANYONE ! I seen @Madonna & @JimmyFallon’s $10,000 donations… that’s cute, but not nearly enough…”

We gotta applaud Game for standing up for folks in need and using his influence in a positive way. And one look at his charity’s fat bank account leads us to believe that there’s plenty more giving on deck. If you wish to help, the Flint Water Fund is accepting donations to buy water filters and bottled water.
