Tyler Perry To Help Displaced LGBTQ Youth, Homeless Women

Tyler Perry recently made history for opening the largest film studio owned by a Black person, and his plans for the 330-acre campus will go far beyond filmmaking.

Speaking with Gayle King on CBS This Morning, Perry opened up about his plans to continue paying it forward to his community by helping those less fortunate on a compound which he plans to build on the historic grounds.

“You know, the studio’s gonna be what it is,” he said. “I’ll tell you what I’m most excited about next is pulling this next phase off, is building a compound for trafficked women, girls, homeless women, LGBTQ youth who are put out and displaced… somewhere on these 330 acres, where they’re trained in the business and they become self-sufficient.”

The famously charitable filmmaker added that he plans to create an environment where these groups can rebuild their lives and hopefully “pay it forward again.”

“They live in nice apartments. There’s daycare,” he said. “There’s all of these wonderful things that allows them to reenter society… So, that’s what I hope to do soon.”

As previously reported, Perry hosted a grand gala over the weekend celebrating the opening of Tyler Perry Studios. The moment served as a poignant time in Black Hollywood history.
